OK, look. Obviously, racism is bad. But if we give any nonwhite American a free pass to commit any crime for fear that punishing them would ignite a racist backlash, this country will fall apart.

NBC's angle? The real problem is that reporting on it "reignited fears of anti-Asian discrimination."

Highly, highly recommend @erikphoel’s 4-pt series about teaching toddlers to read - both as a mindset shift and for practical guidance. I subscribed to his Substack to read them and it was one of the most consequential decisions I’ve made in the past year. https://www.theintrinsicperspective.com/p/how-i-taught-my-3-year-old-to-read

The problem with LA is the "Everything's Fine" people. These are people that came to LA after its heyday and during its decline after the financial crash of 2008. The more recent the transplant, the less they are aware of what Los Angeles used to be. They have no idea all the areas that used to be lively, or that there was a world class music and night life scene. If you mention there weren't homeless people shitting on the streets everywhere, they call you a MAGA fascist because unhoused people have rights too and Everything's Fine. If you mention entire neighborhoods like the Pacific Palisades did not burn down, they say you should not be blaming the mayor for the weather (which is controlled by global warming Republicans) and Everything's Fine. You can say it's really not normal for so many shops to be closed all over Los Angeles with empty storefronts, and they'll say something about equity and that Everything's Fine. The street vendors on sidewalks in front of KoreaTown restaurants that are shutting down? That's totally fine because that's LA culture (no it fucking isn't newbie). Crime? Everything's Fine. These theater kid transplants from Michigan say why are you complaining, move somewhere else. They don't know what they don't know.
Then they drink a $20 Erewhon smoothie thinking that's the height of LA culture. Everything's Fine.

Today, we’re announcing Viktor’s $75M Series A, led by @Accel .
@viktor__com was supposed to be a small experiment.
It became the AI coworker 10x'ing real businesses.
$15M in annualized revenue run rate. In 10 weeks.
– Small companies saving millions of dollars
– Sourcing hundreds of thousands in new revenue in their first 30 days
– Whole teams getting half their week back
– Companies running 40% leaner without cutting output
Viktor is not another AI tool.
It’s the first true AI employee.
The vision that has been with us since 2023 when we started the company has finally been shipped.
Back then, it was just the two of us, with a very small but dedicated team, iterating for years. Failing multiple times.
Showing products that users didn't even want to test!
But we never gave up.
Our decisions were often wrong. Certainly more often than not! We kept trying.
Now we’ve shipped something people love.
Worth every sleepless night. Every sacrifice.
The best employees don’t need to be told what to do.
Neither does Viktor.
Grateful to @Accel, our team, our earliest users, and everyone who believed this category could be bigger than chat.
This is so cool: rerun.io

Scariest video I've watched this week
America's next generation actively booing the most transformative technology our species has ever seen
In China grandmas line up to get OpenClaw installed
In America, supposedly our most educated people BOO even the mention of AI
The west simply does not stand a chance if this continues
We have a massive AI marketing problem in this country and nobody is doing anything to fix it
Tomorrow Meta will announce 8,000 layoffs. They will blame it completely on AI
They won't blame it on their irresponsible hiring in 2021 or extended elevated rates or horrible market conditions or bad inflation
No, in order to not tank their stock, they'll blame it on AI
College students will read that and learn to HATE the technology
They'll protest outside datacenters holding ridiculous signs that say "SAVE OUR WATER NO MORE DATACENTERS"
Politicians will see this and run on blocking data centers just to get a few votes
All of it will be a cycle that leads to America losing to China
This should be a warning sign to all frontier labs and CEOs: messaging matters. And if your messaging doesn't change the West is cooked

Come on Google what kind of swag is this lol
It is a shame that the simple act of transferring a large block of data as fast as possible over the internet is not handled effectively by the primitive operating system calls. You either multiplex over parallel persistent TCP connections to combat head-of-line blocking and slow starts, or reinvent reliable delivery and flow control over UDP.
QUIC has a lot going for it, but it is a large library (six figure LoC!) and conflates security and performance in a way I don’t love. There is also fundamental information about competition with other processes and link layer congestion that should be useful, but is unavailable to user libraries.
You should be able to just write(really_big_buffer) and it is all taken care of for you.

All agentic coding apps are starting to look the same. This is the latest Antigravity app from IO, which looks pretty slick.

The UI for teams and orgs to work well with agents still needs to be figured out.

Joe Rogan Recaps
New: Joe Rogan reacts to the mass shootings in Austin, Texas with billionaire Marc Andreessen:
ANDREESSEN: “Flock Safety and ShotSpotter are automated policing technologies used by law enforcement to detect gunfire in real time. They couldn’t track the shooters in Austin because they turned off Flock for political reasons.”
ROGAN: “What political reasons?”
ANDREESSEN: “Some cities think they’re racist technologies that will target people of color and disadvantaged groups.”
ROGAN: “Oh boy woke politics are really fun. The other problem with this is people are going to think this mass shooting was organized by Flock so they could get reinstated in Austin to bring in the surveillance state.
I guarantee people are going to say we’re shills for Flock and are promoting a surveillance state. That’s the problem now that whenever there’s a mass shooting we just assume it’s a false flag. That’s where we’re at as a society.”

I’ve been lurking in anti-AI, anti-data center activist facebook groups just to understand what their arguments are
Guys it’s really not a good sign that they are borrowing the same tactic of framing non-violent things as violence. During the woke cultural revolution, innocuous things such as free speech and simply asserting the biological reality of two sexes were considered violence.
You know where this leads, right? Labeling things as “violence” or “harm” lowers the bar for outrage and justifies…. anything. There are no limiting principles. It moves the issue from pragmatic cost-benefit analysis into moral theater.
It might be the new mind virus
