Pre-pandemic JSConf EU was the conference that was a clear "must not miss" for me. Now it's AIEWF.
Only things I'm missing are the late night discussions over burgers at Burgermeister and karaoke until 6am at Monster Ronson's. SF equivalents needed

Progressives spent 2016-2024 slathering on hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes on new housing per unit until moderates won back control in late 2024.
It isn’t the ZIRP era anymore unfortunately. Construction and financing costs are way higher than they were a decade ago. Time to roll it back and make it easier to build.
Bilal Mahmood 馬百樂: I was catching up with a friend at Y Combinator this weekend. This is the first year that even their entrepreneurs are unable to find housing in San Francisco.
To fundamentally address our housing crisis, we must build housing at all levels - market rate, middle-income, and

This is a deep insight from Blake: "the enemy is the real customer of defense products."
It's easy to think that the US govt is the customer of defense tech products, but ultimately they're effectively a middle-man. The enemy drives what we need.
Blake Scholl 🛫: In the event of a major war, Boom will pivot immediately and make defense products.
Wartime defense production should come primarily out of a commercial industrial base 1/n🧵
yes in case you missed it we are doing "poaster" sessions at AIE for the first time ever
no papers, no posters.
only poasters.
we are looking for people who physically print out their hottest takes and stand in front of them taking all comers
@QuinnyPig is there, we have room for a couple dozen more.
application below cc @vibhuuuus
lily zhang: very excited about the AIE poster & poaster session😄, let's get some spicy hot takes loaded. @swyx @vibhuuuus @aiDotEngineer

It’s funny, growing up as an immigrant I developed a scarcity mindset around saving money and resources.
But when it comes to unlimited token plans and tokenmaxxing, it feels like a missed opportunity if I don’t burn as many tokens as possible and hit the limit each time.
How do I address this disconnect? 🥹

in the near term you should probably just use @wafer_ai which seems to be the cheapest provider instead of building your own rig.
but the fact you can even consider doing it now is a very good sign for personal on-device AI in the next decade as trillions of dollars go into chip science.
Jordan Nanos: GLM 5.2 costs $1.40/4.40 per Mtok at 40 tok/sec and people seriously consider buying GPU rigs for it

Two of the most important biomedical breakthroughs came from science of the Gila lizard venom (GLP-1s) and yogurt (CRISPR genome editing).
"The system that turned that lizard into a medicine is now being dismantled."
"Less support for scientists means strange questions no one will get to chase."

btw i've been shopping around for insurers for the New Media Lab we are setting up (basically the creative playground housing swyx inc) and yeah the NPS of Corgi is insanely high
my real estate broker: "just go with corgi they are covering every single one of my clients rn"
breaking through with ~100% greenfield market share like this is unheard of in the insurance industry
nico laqua: The point of the corgi cafe isn’t the interior design, although that’s something we’re improving (and there’s a lot more coming soon with the cafe). The point of the corgi cafe is it’s the only place where I am 100% certain that there are billion dollar companies being founded,

Recall Jackie Fielder
Jackie Fielder turned her District 9 office into a taxpayer-funded Shadow State Department.
While potholes went unfixed, open drug markets spread, and property crime exploded in the Mission, Bernal Heights, and Portola, she diverted staff time and city resources to Middle Eastern geopolitics. She wasn’t solving local problems. She was playing diplomat from City Hall.
In October 2025, when a San Francisco native named Logan Hollarsmith was detained by Israeli forces on a Gaza flotilla, Fielder’s legislative aide reached out to his mother offering the District 9 office’s official support. Fielder publicly declared “nothing but admiration and respect” for the activists. At the same time she weaponized the conflict to attack local employers, boycotting Dreamforce and calling Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff “incredibly dangerous.”
This wasn’t representation. This was grotesque dereliction. She spent taxpayer hours on international maritime drama and alienating the Jewish community and moderate Democrats while her own district fell apart.
Her priorities were never District 9. They were performative activism and ideological signaling on everyone else’s dime.
Jackie Fielder must resign.

5 steps to create amazing videos like the one below from HTML for free:
Install @HyperFrames_ in your favorite coding harness (e.g., Codex or Claude Code).
Then...
1. Gather your assets
Create a project folder and add screenshots, logos, website captures, reference clips, and a frame md to give Hyperframes the raw material for your video.
If you have a design md you can convert it to a frame md here: https://www.hyperframes.dev/design

I’m excited to partner with @swyx to host a workshop at the @aiDotEngineer World’s Fair with Carole Robin (Distinguished @StanfordGSB Teacher of “Touchy Feely” & Co-Founder of @LITfellows) on developing effective relationships.
Building human relationships (including romantic ones) is a KPI of @aiDotEngineer. While we are celebrating so much AI progress, we also want to foster more human connection. This is an urgent time to ensure we have both the technical skills to develop AI safely *and* the interpersonal skills to build effective human relationships.
We will do a live demo of connection tools from the Touchy Feely course and @LITfellows programs. You'll then practice the skills yourself. You'll leave with tools to be more effective in your professional and personal relationships.
Public conference passes are sold out, but @swyx is offering a limited number of complimentary Expo passes for this workshop. Request a pass by Thursday, June 25 to attend the workshop: http://bit.ly/connect-ai-2026

We're accelerating patching, in addition to vuln finding, with new tools and models in OpenAI Daybreak.
Our models are now discovering and generating patches for critical vulns in major browsers, network infrastructure, and operating systems (such as FreeBSD and the Linux kernel), and patching projects like cURL, Go, Python, Sigstore, and pyca/cryptography.
Working together with partners and the ecosystem to help secure the world's software:
OpenAI: We’re expanding OpenAI Daybreak to help democratize patching vulnerable software at machine speed:
- Codex Security plugin: find, validate, and fix vulnerabilities right inside Codex
- The full version of GPT-5.5-Cyber model: a great model for trusted defenders

CA Community Colleges will be banned from offering remedial math. Have you been working for 20 yrs and now want to go back to school and study business? You cannot brush up on College Algebra. You must be enrolled directly into Calculus. (!?!)
I want to do a podcast episode with someone who's good at using Codex / Claude Code to create fun pixel or threejs games and can show us how to do it.
I am a gamer at heart! Who's the best person to talk to?
We want to help all companies be secure, working with the USG and the security ecosystem.

*Patch The Planet and Codex Security will help solve security problems instead of just finding them.
I thought “no way is this real”, but there actually is a project along these lines. I doubt Nvidia is any more involved than just selling them GPUs, and they aren’t going to be “silent”, but a company is actually pitching this.
Large data centers have substantial efficiencies of scale, so this is economically nonsensical even for low grade inference (to say nothing of training) unless traditional construction is outlawed.

Gray Swan: Red-Teaming after Mythos & the coming AI security crisis https://www.latent.space/p/gray-swan
@GraySwanAI cofounders @zicokolter and Matt Fredrikson explain why AI security is fundamentally different from traditional cybersecurity, how their automated red-teaming system Shade can now outperform humans at breaking frontier models, why prompt injection creates an entirely new class of exploits for agents like Claude Code and Codex, and why the first major AI security breach may be a gray swan event that everyone sees coming.

Extremely predictable: the driver lied
Ashok Elluswamy: @elonmusk @kylaschwaberow Yup. In this case, the driver manually overrode self-driving by pressing the accelerator all the way to 100% of the accel pedal in this residential area. They reached a speed of 73 mph during the crash, and had the accelerator pressed even after the crash.

New listen: @GraySwanAI cofounders @zicokolter and Matt Fredrikson sat down with @swyx on @latentspacepod to unpack why AI security is its own discipline; not just "cybersecurity with AI."

i suggest we do the proper democratic thing then and allow every cancer patient and parent of kids with cancer to vote on whether they'd rather see AI move faster, or if they'd rather watch their loved ones die
Emma Pierson: New piece in @TheAtlantic!
We always hear that AI will cure cancer, and I would immediately benefit if it did. But I argue that racing ahead on generalist AI models creates unclear benefits for cancer that are outweighed by broader societal harms.
